Using OpenCDMP

A Data Management Plan (DMP), or a Software Management Plan (SMP) for code, describes how a project will create, store, share, and preserve its research outputs. Funders such as Horizon Europe ask for one at the start of a project and for updates along the way, so that results stay findable and reusable. In OpenCDMP your organisation has already set up the forms: you pick the one that fits your funder or project, answer its questions with your team, and download or publish the result.

Fastest path

  1. Create a plan from a blueprint, or import one.
  2. Answer its questions.
  3. Add an asset for each research output.
  4. Invite your collaborators.
  5. Finalize the plan.
  6. Download or publish it.

New to OpenCDMP? The Your first plan tutorial walks through these steps. Inside the application, short guided tours introduce each redesigned page the first time you open it.

How it fits together

  • A plan is your project's DMP or SMP. When you create it, you choose a blueprint, which gives the plan its sections and questions.
  • Inside the plan you add assets, one per research output, such as a dataset or a piece of software. Each asset follows an asset template, which gives it its questions.
  • Some answers are references, such as a funder, a grant, a researcher, or a license, that you pick from a list instead of typing.
  • You work on the plan with your collaborators, each with a role. You can download it at any time. When it is complete, you finalize it; you can then share it on Public Plans, publish it to a repository for a DOI, and start a new version when the project moves on.

Your organisation prepares the blueprints and templates; you cannot change them. See Blueprints and asset templates.
